This is done without sending any information to Microsoft
Well at least that's how WindowsUpdate used to be. Apparently it now does send information, and more than it really needs to:
- The Inquirer article
- Slashdot article
- Original tecChannel article (unfortunately you have to pay to view the whole article)
But we all trust that Microsoft would never do anything it shouldn't do with all that data, now don't we?
Update: Slashdot apparently didn't read the whole article (well neither did I - pay for news?
- but I'd have expected them to). As Shacknews reports, no information about other programs installed on your computer is actually sent to Microsoft. The article merely stated that it was possible for the update client to send such details if they wanted it to.
